The physics of condensed matter is the study, through the combination of theory and experiment, of the properties of matter of high atomic density in all its states (crystals, glasses, liquids, etc.), in all its forms (solid materials and their surfaces, divided – porous, granular – and inhomogeneous media, nano-objects and heterostructures, etc.), at different spatial and temporal scales (nano-, meso- and macro-, from the picosecond to long periods of time) and under all conditions (extreme temperature and pressure, irradiation, mechanical, electrical, magnetic stresses, etc.).
